The European Day of Languages is close! In 2011, the Council of Europe decided that September 26 was the day in which we celebrated European linguistic multiculturalism.

Every year since then, numerous events are organized on this day throughout the continent: celebrations, shows, courses, contests, conferences etc.

Romanians are invited on Saturday, September 24, 2016 to the Museum of the Romanian Peasant, between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., to celebrate European multilingualism. This event is organized under the patronage of EUNIC Bucharest Cluster (European Union National Institutes for Culture). During it, demo lessons for adults and children will be organized for the following languages: Italian, Greek, French, Portuguese, Polish, Turkish, Romanian, Spanish, Hungarian, German, English and Czech.

Furthermore, the European Day of Languages is celebrated in educational establishments and cultural institutions in the whole of Europe, as it promotes learning a European language regardless of age and social status. The aim is to consolidate a united Europe, inhabited by people who speak several languages and are always able to understand their peers in neighboring countries.

In these five years from the establishment of this cultural celebration, hundreds of events have been organized in the 47 member states of the Council of Europe. This reflects the Europeans’ desire for cultural integration in a united linguistic space.

As speakers of a European language, Romanians are invited to the event organized at the Museum of the Romanian Peasant or are encouraged to participate in other celebrations held on September 26. It is time to celebrate our Romance language, as well as the other languages in the European space.
